After 2 continents, 2 countries, several time zones and 2 flights, we are home safe and sound. I'm sure we will share our experiences with you in the next few weeks and months. It was a great opportunity to share our skills and knowledge with Nursing teachers and students in Bangladesh, to understand their culture, their challenges and their hopes for the future. As often happens, we most likely learned more than we imparted, Bangladesh is a growing, developing country.
They need guidance and assistance as they move forward, in a local newspaper, we saw that Sweden has dedicated many millions of Kronas to help Bangladesh progress. A University in Scotland is the guiding influence at the Nursing College we visited, US Aid and Save the Children UK are also financing and training health initiatives to prevent the spread of Tb. A small team of teachers from CVCEC in Ormstown also have contributed to progress as well, it was an amazing experience for each of us and as a team we shared, learned and bonded. I think we all feel that we couldn't have gone with a greater group of people, each had their strength, that made the team as a whole, so effective. Thanks to each......
Bangladesh has to look at it's social problems of discrimination, family violence, government corruption, health promotion and public safety. It seems to us that education is the key. Some say ``If you educate a woman, you educate a nation``. By assisting the Grameen Caledonian College of Nursing to improve their teaching skills and to meet and share with nursing students, we hoped that we have encouraged them to continue to educate girls from the poorest families in the country. They are bright and clever and just need an opportunity to learn and to work in society to bring about change.
Finally, thank you to our colleagues who covered our responsibilities during our absence, to our administration for encouraging us and supporting our dream of helping others, to our team mates who moved outside their comfort zone to teach and share and to the Bangladeshi people who welcomed us, connected with us, taught us and thanked us. We have much to be thankful for.
