Hello everyone,
In three short weeks we will be in Bangladesh, volunteering at the Grameen Caledonian College of Nursing (GCCN)in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Danielle (Boak), Kim (Tannahill), Bev (Robson-Tannahill) and Debbi & Ralph Templeton will be volunteering by sharing our knowledge and skills with the teachers and students at the college. We can hardly imagine what our team's experience will be, but I am quite sure it will be a life-changing experience for all 5 of us. We are so appreciative of the support we have received from our employer, the New Frontiers School Board, who believes in international experiences for teachers and students.
The 4 health care teachers will be providing workshops for the College and for a Hospital for the Paralyzed in Savar, the same community that experienced a garment factory collapse just a few years ago. We will be providing workshops in Moving Patients Safely, Infection Control, Venipuncture (drawing blood), Catheterization and CPR. While in Bangladesh we will have a chance to see life along the water and in the tea growing region of the country. Ralph will be teaching English to the staff at GCCN, as well as directing our "Canadian Culture" experience for students and staff.
We will spend much of our time in Dhaka (in the middle of the map above), but hope to head up to the Northeast part of the country, rent some bicycles to explore Srimongol.
Please follow our blog, each of us will share our perspectives and share what we have learned through this experience. At the end of our time in Bangladesh, we plan to spend 2 days in Istanbul, Turkey (on the upper left-hand side of the map of Turkey) debriefing and taking the time to reflect on our experience. We have invited our colleagues to start the blog, so you'll soon see some new entries.
